Another Year, Another Vineyard Lite Quiz

It was with eager anticipation that over 140 people turned up to the Vineyard Lite 2008 Quiz Night.  This years theme was 'Space' which meant the team were dressed up in 'star trek' like outfits and the hall definitely had a starry appearance - thanks to the fantastic technical skills of Richard Milliken who once again did a great job with the lighting and also thanks to a great website that sent us a great starry backdrop that helped the atmosphere no end.

The team (Ruth (Trev in our minds this year as he had to be somewhere else on the night), Mark and Elaine, Mike and Sarah and Helen and Jonathan arrived early - as usual to set up and prepare the room for the evening.  Out other helpers arrived swiftly after, including Dave and Heather, Pauline Cameron, Pauline Doyle, Karen and Jerry, Jessica, Hannah and Keren and we were able to transform the room ready for the quiz evening.

The room was finally ready and we all waiting for guests to arrive.  The first very unusal thing to be said is that this is the only Vineyard event, where people actually arive early!!! ( Well,  mostly!)  The competetive spirit is working and people know they want to get going on the first round - with the cryptic clues all ready and waiting on their tables as they come in.

The evening took off and everyone had a lot of fun.  There were those who took it very seriously, and those that had a fantastic time laughing at all they didn't know!!

Trevor arrived just before the end, and it was great that he could join in, as he had been part of all the hard work before hand.  He even had a prize for the best dressed quiz team members.

The atmosphere was great, but as with all quizzes, there has to be a winning table.....and a losing one.   The winners won a very special rocket  (made lovingly by Mark and Elaine!) that was filled with ...yes you guessed.. mars, milky way, galaxy, starburst .. you get the idea!  Robert and Juliet were the lucky ones to take this home and the final test for them, was to see if they can keep the rocket in tact until the next connect group get together!!!

We will spare the losing table from having their picture shown, but they had a great time and even won a box of smarties for their efforts.

Well, that is it for another year, the quiz night team would like to say a special thanks to our teenagers who came and helped on the night by being 'runners' and generally fantastic.  (I am trying to get hold of a photo of them.)  They were:  Jessica and Dan Matuatia, Amy Ejvet, David Hutchinson, Jessica Finney and Louise Payne - Tim - you would have been proud.

The team are already getting ideas for the next quiz night, but in the meantime, don't wait a year until you join in with an event, we have go karting in May and keep an ear out for a variety of events that will be coming your way!!

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks a lot

Helen, Jonathan, Mike and Sarah, Ruth and Trev, Mark and Elaine
